Air Dryer-Condenser_Marbles in Tank_Adult Supervision Needed

Postby grits » Thu Aug 21, 2008 5:16 am

Hub or anyone else that has the nerve to comment on this one.

I was talking to an older gentleman, that had been in the auto body repair business for some time, and mentioned the loop dryer I was adding to my air system. I am using either three or four stainless steel tanks, that use to be fire extinguishers, in instead of copper pipe. The old man suggested I fill one of the tanks with marbles. He told me he saw someone do it and it worked very well.

I told him I quit playing marbles when I had to start wearing bifocals. I guess I could practice and go to the school yard and see if I still have my skills. I am sure I still have my shooters since I have never thrown anything away.

Is there any validity to this suggestions. It seems it would give the moisture more surface area to condense, until they warmed up to the incoming air temperature. If it is valid, assuming I could not win them, where could I find that many marbles?

I am not making this up and I am stone cold sober.

Sounds like its an old idea on the Desiccant Filter beads , in a desiccant filters we have now , they change color when its time to change them . It has a sight window on the body its blue when good and pink when the beads need changed .

MARBLES??????????

Postby Hub » Sat Aug 23, 2008 9:21 pm

Dear Mr. Grits,
Use the space age cooling system you designed and built - forget the Marbles - surface and slowing the air flow will do the job.

For a supply of marbles - check with the lost and found, I'd bet there has been enough of us that have lost a few along the way.

STONE COLD SOBER :?:

STONE COLD SOBER!

Maybe I should have told everyone I was drunk at the time. That way, yall would not think I a crazy. I will admit to being a little bit crazy. Life would be very boring if I were completely sane.

The same guy said they use too stuff desiccant filters with what women wear, once a month, when they want to kill all men. I was not even going to mention that. I could see myself checking out at Wal Mart with a basket full of them. I would surely be locked up, for being a little too crazy, if I did that.

Thanks Grits

I was speaking to a wise old elf myself one day, and he told me how he saw a diy desiccant dryer. He reckons just get a foot or so of min 2" gun barrel or even an old fire extinguisher drill an inlet hole at the bottom and an outlet hole at the other side at the top, weld in 2 pieces of 1/2" threaded pipe also drill and fit a drain at the bottom.Thread the top of the gun barrel(if used) and make a cap with an o ring in it.
He stated that although it sounds a lot of hassle it really wasnt that much work.I have assigned him to the same nut house

I lost my marbles a long time ago, so I bought more.
you can get them at any hobby store, and I think I saw them
at Wal-Mart.
They come in handy.
I've used them to add to a can of activator or paint to raise the level and
displace the air. It'll keep longer that way.
Back in the days of siphon cup guns, we added a couple to the cup
to be able to shake and help keep metallics stirred.
